2015 was a big year for celebrity breakups, many of which we're still trying to get over ourselves. But what happens after a famous couple files for divorce? Untying the Knot's Vikki Ziegler helps forecast what's next.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announced they were divorcing in June after 10 years of marriage. This one is a crap shoot. Did Ben cheat with their former nanny? Is Jen over him and ready to move on? There are so many rumors surrounding this divorce, it's unclear what is truth and what is fiction. What we do know is that they have three adorable girls together and are reportedly worth millions together — Ben with an estimated $75-85 million and Jen at $60 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. It’s not clear if they have a prenup or not, but unraveling their emotions may be harder than their finances. Only time will tell with this couple.
Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale
Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale announced their split on August 3. The parties have been married for 13 years — that’s a long time in the celebrity marriage books! There doesn’t appear to be a prenup, so the 50/50 California community property laws kick in and everything after the parties wed will likely be divided equally. Forty-six-year-old Gwen is worth a reported $80 million, and 50-year-old Gavin is worth an estimated $35 million, per ET Online. Given the length of the marriage, there is a great deal of money that will be divided and Gavin could become wealthier due to the disparity in net worths. They have three children together and want to co-parent. Child support is out there as well and it will depend on who the children will reside with more. Looks like Gwen is having a blast with Blake Shelton these days, so unless Gavin is over Gwen this could be a messy divorce.
Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green
Megan Fox filed for divorce from Brian Austin Green in August after five years of marriage and 11 years together. They have two children in common and have a large age difference. Brian's allegedly worth $4 million, and Megan $8 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. This one may not be so easy to untie the knot as they both likely have intertwined their finances and are trying to raise two small children together. They are at different stages of their careers, and work life balance has been unable to achieve. They will have to put aside their emotions and make this a business deal and focus on co-parenting their children in order to divorce with dignity.
Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez
Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez split in October after a little more than two years of marriage. Can you say this may turn out to be an ugly divorce? These two have had a rough start, with Olivier getting into a bloody altercation with Halle's former boyfriend (and baby daddy). These two have only been married for two and a half years but have a baby in common. Halle is reportedly worth an estimated $80 million and Olivier only $20 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. A prenup is rumored to be in place but child support must be determined now and cannot be included in a prenuptial agreement. This may turn ugly as even if Halle has residential custody, she may have to fork over big bucks to Olivier in child support to ensure that their son has a lifestyle commensurate with the one the parties led while married. Stay tuned.
Ryan Sweeting and Kaley Cuoco
On September 25, Ryan Sweeting and Kaley Cuoco announced that they had decided to end their marriage. Well, this marriage was very short lived — they were married less than two years and got engaged only three months after dating. Kaley is reportedly worth an estimated $45 million and Ryan only $2 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Rest assured there is a prenup in place that protects Kaley’s hefty fortune. I'm hopeful they can resolve their difference as there are no children in common and are apparently still working together as per her reps.
